Joe’s journey into music production began in college when he started recording his
own band out of necessity, quickly discovering a deep passion for the craft.
Determined to learn everything he could, he pursued a degree in music performance
and production while gaining hands-on experience in local studios, refining his skills
on friends’ projects.
During this time, Joe secured a pivotal role working with Geoff Swan, contributing to
mixes for artists like Ed Sheeran, Charli XCX and James Bay. He also trained under
Neil Kennedy and Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House, developing
expertise in drum recording, amplified instruments, and the nuances of coaching
artists to deliver their best vocal performances.
After graduating, Joe transitioned into full-time studio work, spending months
working on records at the renowned Middle Farm Studios before the pandemic
brought the industry to a standstill. Post-lockdown, he relocated to London and
eventually joined JBJ Studios, where he continues to push his craft forward.
A musician as well as a producer, Joe bridges the gap between technical precision
and artistic vision. Equally comfortable engineering, producing, and mixing, he
thrives on bringing an artist’s ideas to life (If there is a key command he doesn’t use –
you don’t need it!) He’s an expert in digital workflows and constantly experiments
with new recording techniques to ensure every project sounds fresh and exciting.
Alongside the artists already mentioned, Joe has worked across a range of genres
including working with Sabrina Carpenter, Jonsi (Sigur Rós), Holding Absence,
Faouzia, Orla Gartland, Mahalia, Christine and the Queens, Sarah Close, Ward
Thomas, Wretch 32, and Primal Scream.
Joe’s in-depth knowledge makes him a joy to work with, from his expanded
knowledge in tuning drums to his DAW versatility, or his ability to shape guitar tones
you’ll never worry about his ability to make a session run smoothly from start to
finish, with great results.
